APCRCC’s annual meeting held
ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The 26th annual meeting of Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC) with a theme “those who have been given a trust must prove faithful,” was held under the chairmanship of APCRCC president Tarh Kama at CRC here from February 20 to 23.

PRI leaders of Niji village oppose inclusion in Kamle district proposal map
ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Opposing to the inclusion of Niji village of Upper Subansiri district in the proposal map of Kamle district, its PRI leaders have requested the concern authorities for its exclusion.
In a release, claiming that the inclusion was done without knowledge of any of its leaders by the district demand committee, it said, Niji village is part and parcel of Upper Subansiri district since time immemorial.
We have been enjoying our comfortable daily life like administration, education, medical and business purposes as it is well connected with the district headquarter, Daporijo, at only 2.5kms distance. So the question does not arise that we would agree to include our village in the proposed district, the leaders added in its release.
JNC accredited with Grade-
ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC), Pasighat, the premier institution of the state has been accredited with the cherished Grade “A” by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) during its 66th executive committee meeting held on February 21.

Protest against attack turns violent; curfew at Behali, Borgang
Tezpur, Feb 23: A day after four more bodies were recovered from troubled Chauldhowa
along Assam-
According to senior district officials, several vehicles were torched, including the one owned by Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Court Judge, triggering lathicharge and firing in air by the police to control the mob.
Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Lalit Gogoi said curfew has been imposed in Behali Reserve Forest and Borgang areas on Sunday evening till further notice although the situation is under control.
Tension escalated again in the area after four highly decomposed bodies were recovered yesterday from the jungles of Chauldhowa under Behali Reserve Forest in Assam's Sonitpur district along Arunachal Pradesh border.
With these, the toll in January 29 attack at Chauldhowa by miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh went upto 15.
This morning, people along with local units of a number of organisations staged protest against the killings by blocking the National Highway 15 at Bedeti and Borgang under Biswanath Chariali subdivision.
The protest turned violent at Bedeti when five army vehicles escorting people from Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati reached the place.
The agitators pelted stones at the Army vehicles, forcing them to go back.
At Borgang, two vehicles, including one of a Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Court Judge S N Singh and police escort gypsy were set ablaze by the protesters.
The Assam Police spokesperson said Singh was accompanied by Gauhati High Court Judge (Retd) H N Sarmah who were on way to Arunachal when protesters stopped them prompting lathicharge and firing in air by the police to disperse the crowd. No one was injured.

Assam police had registered nine cases related to the Behali incident against Arunachali persons, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Balijan in the neighbouring state.

Miscreants attack children, Sonitpur SP denies
ITANAGAR, Feb 23: In yet another unfortunate incident, 35 small children accompanied
by their 35 parents were reportedly attacked by some miscreants near Borgang on Gohpur-
The incident occurred when the parents were escorting their children for the Sainik School admission test scheduled at Tezpur on February 24, informed former MP Kiren Rijiju.
Rijiju blamed the Army authority for ferrying the students and parents without making proper security arrangements despite knowing the fact that a bandh call is being enforced by some groups in that area.
The former MP requested the Army authority to make special arrangements for their safe return and conduct all future test and examination within Arunachal Pradesh.
When contacted, Sonitpur Superintendent of Police Sanjukta Parashar has vehemently denied any such incident. The SP, however, advised Arunachalee people to take extra precaution while travelling through this route in view of recovery of body of the four people, who went missing during Taraso incident. She assured all help, if sought, to Arunachalee people travelling within the jurisdiction of Sonitpur Police and appealed to feel free to call her up (tele: 09435557322) for any help.
Meanwhile, Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association vehemently
condemned and criticized the reported attack on Justice H N Sarma and burning down
of vehicle at Borgang in Assam at around 2.30 pm today when he was on his way to
Itanagar to preside over the Election Tribunal. The Association strongly urged authorities
to initiate legal actions against the miscreants. While expressing serious concern
over the alleged inaction of Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Congress-

Govt. spokesperson pleads agitators to stop harassing Arunachalees

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Following discovery of bodies of four people who had been missing
since January 29 Tarasso-
“So far, Arunachal Government has not cooperated in arresting even one miscreant,” said an agitator.
When asked about Arunachal government’s action, Arunachal Pradesh government spokesperson Nabam Rebia in a telephonic conversation reiterated his earlier statement that none of the Arunachalee people are involved in the killing.
“These are just baseless allegations that Arunachalee people are involved. If there is anything, come up with proper evidence. Instead, the role of CPIML leader Vivek Das should be investigated. He should be arrested,” Rebia retorted.
According to reports, Das had allegedly invited people hailing from other parts of Assam to come to Behali, situated nearby Tarasso, with promise to provide them land in return. His activity came to light for the first time in May 2013 when he led provocative bike rally inside Arunachal territory at Tarasso. Since then, the supporters of Das had encroached upon Arunachal’s land and had put up camps in various areas of Tarasso circle.
Informing that the state government has written to the Union Home Ministry for an independent Inquiry into the incident, the government spokesperson said, “With the Ministry’s directive, Arunachal and Assam police can conduct joint investigation into the incident.”
He however appealed to the agitators to not resort to something as terrible as economic blockade which is hampering the entire functioning of the state.
“The whole people of Arunachal cannot be held responsible for the incident that happened,” he begged.

Workshop on promotion of Tagin dialect

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWWB) chairman Nyamar Karbak has advised the students of Nomuk village to dedicate their time to their study and urged the youths for proper use of IT products like mobile phones etc.
Attending the closing day of the 4th Nomuk Youth Week Celebration at Nomuk village, Karbak appealed to the youths to be a role model of the area and refrain themselves from politics. He stressed the need for creating awareness among the villagers on harmful effects of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.
Responding to a memorandum submitted to him by Nomuk Youth Club (NYC) general secretary Tojo Nomuk, Karbak assured to provide PA system within a week to NYC and suggested the club to prepare an estimate for construction of two units of toilet and drainage for Nomuk village so that he can pursue the matter with the competent authority.

T20 cricket for AIDS awareness campaign held
ITANAGAR, Feb 23: An HIV/AIDS awareness campaign through T20 Cricket Tournament was organized by Seijosa based organization titled DOT (.) Society of Arunachal Pradesh at General Ground Seijosa from February 16.

Earlier, in his inaugural address Dr. S Kakoty Project Director, APSACS Naharlagun delivered valuable lecture on the HIV/AIDS. According to him many cases of HIV positive were found in Arunachal Pradesh since the year of 1998 to till date. He also explained the confusion between HIV Positive and AIDS, as many people are still unaware about it. The Project Director also explained about the mode of different transmission, possibilities of exposure and specially appealed all the pregnant mothers to go for HIV test during their ANC.
PRI Members also interacted with the project director and stressed the need of conducting such awareness campaign in interior 12 Pakke Kessang areas also. Dr. Kamku Pordung and Dr. Om Pradhan, Chairman and Director of the NGO lauded the Project Director and others for their cooperation.

Electorate has grown nearly 5 times since '51-
New Delhi, Feb 23: As the nation gears up for the 16th Lok Sabha polls, India's electorate
has grown nearly five times from what it was during the first general elections in
1951-
Figures released by the Election Commission show that the electorate was 17.3212343
crore in 1951-
Since last general elections in 2009, the total number of electors in the country has grown by around 9.7606083 crore.
In 2009, the number of voters was 71.6985101 crore.
The electorate in 1998 general elections was 60.5880192 crore which has registered a growth of 34.45 per cent.
Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest number of 80 Lok Sabha seats, has shown the maximum growth in the electorate as compared to 2004.
The number of voters was 10.1982480 crore in UP in 1998, which has risen to 13.4351297 crore now. In 2004, UP had 11.6006374 crore voters. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal have the largest number of voters, with UP constituting 16.5 per cent of the total electorate.
Together these five states constitute of 49.1 per cent of total electors in the country.
Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Nagaland put together comprise less than 0.5 per cent of the total electors.
Among the 28 states and 7 Union Territories, Dadra and Nagar Haveli registered the highest rate of growth in the electorate at 53.9 per cent during the period from 2004 to 2014, followed by Puducherry at 39.1 per cent.
West Bengal showed the highest rate of growth at 31.7 per cent the states category.
Among all states and UTs, Andaman and Nicobar Islands registered the lowest rate of growth at 6.7 per cent followed by Jammu and Kashmir at 8.9 per cent.
While 98.27 per cent electors live in the states, the Union Territories constitute a mere 1.73 per cent of the total voters.

Statehood given too early
As state of Arunachal turns 28 year old, a heated debate is going on whether we have achieved desired development in the last 2 decades. Section of society especially those hailing from ruling class, who have accumulated immense wealth believes that Arunachal has indeed marched ahead. On the other hand those Arunachalees who are yet to taste the fruit of statehood differs with their view. This section of people is of the opinion that statehood was given too early.
Even after 28 years of attaining statehood, many interior places of Arunachal do not have proper road connectivity and are devoid of basic human necessities. Though central government has pumped in massive amount of money for the developmental projects but nothing has improved at ground level. Corruption and nepotism is destroying basic fabric of tribal society. Adding to it, deteriorating law and order condition has worsened the situation. Such is the situation in state that today anyone can walk into any office or house and can harm people without fear of law.
